Wasatch House
The Wasatch House is a private residence situated in an existing forest of scrub oak at the base of Mount Olympus in Salt Lake City. The landscape plan seeks to seamlessly integrate the modern contemporary geometry of the architecture into the natural landscape of the site. Landscape forms closest to the house are geometrical in nature and become looser and more organic as they move away from the house. Large evergreen and deciduous trees are inserted into the scrub oak matrix in order to provide shade to outdoor spaces, screening from the surrounding roads and visual interest to the landscape. Specimen trees were hand-selected in nurseries for specific locations on the site. Outdoor spaces are oriented to maximize views to Mount Olympus and Neff’s Canyon and capture southern sun in the wintertime.
