Golden Spike Park
In 2021, the Golden Spike Foundation enlisted Douwe Blumberg to craft a lasting tribute to the unsung heroes behind the transcontinental railroad. The resulting masterpiece, the Golden Spike Monument, stands 43 feet tall and gleams with gold leaf, adorned with intricate reliefs depicting the diverse array of individuals whose toil and vision forged the historic railway. Nestled within the expansive Golden Spike Park at Reeder Ranch in Brigham City, Utah, the Monument serves as a permanent testament to the collective labor and sacrifices that birthed this monumental feat of engineering. As visitors traverse the park’s 8-acre expanse, they are immersed in the legacy of the original transcontinental line, with pathways guiding them through a landscape meticulously sculpted to echo the rugged terrain traversed by the railroad builders. Tiered seating near the Monument invites educational groups to delve into the rich history it symbolizes, while a shaded plaza offers weary travelers along Interstate 15 a tranquil oasis amid their journey. Framed by the majestic northern Wasatch Mountains, the Monument and its surroundings evoke a sense of awe, paying homage to those who shaped the course of history with their perseverance and dedication.
