Telegraph Exchange Place
Telegraph Exchange Place is an urban loft community in the heart of Salt Lake City’s 9th and 9th neighborhood. At its center, the development preserves and showcases the historic Hyland Exchange Building which was built in 1911-1912 by the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Co.. Eighteen new modern townhomes frame a ground-level community space against the Exchange Building. The community space includes a lap pool with integrated spa pool and a water wall that provides privacy and white noise to mask sounds from the street. The pool deck offers semi-private lounge chair alcoves and intimate seating areas organized around outdoor fireplaces. Globe lights are suspended in an informal array above the pool to create a warm, soft and inviting atmosphere in the evenings. A community fireplace separates the pool from a covered pavilion containing a large outdoor dining table for gatherings of friends and hanging hammocks for relaxation and comfort. Changing rooms for the pool and a community kitchen are housed in a re-purposed shipping container that parallels the outdoor dining area. Trees surround the community space and ground-level plantings provide privacy and soften the architectural nature of the space. A new rooftop deck atop the Exchange Building offers additional outdoor gathering spaces for residents featuring expansive, stunning views of the city, the Great Salt Lake and the dramatic Wasatch mountain range. The rooftop deck provides a variety of comfortable, flexible spaces that can accommodate activities ranging from quietly watching the sun set on the horizon with a significant other, to accommodating large family meals, and to staging catered events such as weddings and parties.
