Best Friends Roadhouse and Mercantile

The Best Friends Roadhouse and Mercantile is a hotel and market in Kanab, Utah that was designed to be a respite for pets and their people. The needs of, and creature comforts for, four-legged guests were primary driving forces in the design of the buildings and the site. The grounds were designed to offer pet-centric services such as off-leash areas, dog walks, and a splash pool area along with unique outdoor spaces for their humans to meet and mingle. Inspiration for the site design was taken from the surrounding high-desert landscape and great care was taken to create a design that integrates seamlessly into Kanab’s spectacular scenery through the use of native plants, local stone and a desert color palette. The Mercantile and its outdoor dining patios welcomes hotel guests and travelers passing through while the performance stage creates a unique venue for local community events. The Roadhouse and Mercantile are new companion facilities to the famous Best Friends Animal Society animal sanctuary located just outside of town.
